Utilizing Global Delivery for your medical billing processes? Let your clients know!

Remote Workforce and global delivery are key to your success. Here are some tips on talking about global delivery to your clients.

With reducing reimbursement rates and increasing competition for medical billing services, the profit margins of medical billing services providers have shrunk dramatically. With the growing maturity of offshore vendors, medical billing companies can confidently turn to reliable service providers to utilize a remote workforce, especially service providers with the right technology, processes, and certifications to improve margins.

However, your healthcare provider clients may, at times, be uncomfortable with the concept, and some may even insist that their work gets done under the same roof. Bringing up a conversation around the offshore workforce as well as home-based employees may be an awkward conversation.

There are many persuasive arguments for using off-site employees. If you communicate the reasons effectively, your clients will realize how the structure benefits their business. Let’s face it teleworking is a reality! The advent of the internet and home-office technology, such as videoconferencing, means a remote workforce can give you cost-efficiencies.

We recommend using these five facts in your conversations with your clients to address any apprehensions that your client may have regarding global resource utilization.

1. Your remote workforce is accountable.

Sophisticated workforce management tools are available today. There are techniques for managing a remote workforce. If the workforce has structured and quantifiable goals, on-the-job performance can be evaluated quickly.

For project-based work, several excellent software applications allow team members to post briefs, collaborate, upload files and set deadlines. Practice management and EHR software can be accessed by workers remotely, and their progress tracked via monitored work queues.

2. Workers appreciate the opportunity to work remotely – and value the job.

A survey by flexjobs.com found that 82% of respondents reported they would be more loyal to their employers if there were remote options for work. In our previous blogs, we have already discussed the challenges of finding and retaining general billing staff. It is in your clients’ best interest for you to keep the employees that learn their business.

3. You hire the best revenue cycle talent from across the country and around the world.

Locating specialized staff, for example, Medical coders experienced in interventional radiology, maybe impossible in many areas. The internet gives you the means to find and work successfully with the talent you need.

4. Financially it makes sense to use offshore medical billing and coding teams.

The flexjobs.com survey also reported that 20% of respondents would take a 10% cut in pay for remote work opportunities. And, 18% said they would be willing to work longer hours (which can be a considerable saving if employees are salaried.) The pay situations of remote workers combined with the lower costs of offshoring translate into significant cost savings that you pass on to your clients.

5. Pay attention to Information Security.

When deciding on your offshore service provider, you must evaluate the information security practices and processes that are in place. Certifications such as ISO 27001 can assure that the organization you are contracting with has detailed procedures and practices, certified by a third-party agency that you can trust.

While the costs of your workforce are a vital consideration for you, an offshore/remote workforce can also give you access to a new level of expertise. Strong workforce management and governance processes can ensure high productivity, professionalism, and better training of the resources – which translates into better reimbursement results for your clients.
